Page 1: “Brooklyn Sniper Kills Boy In Race Disorder”…”An 11-year old Negro boy was killed by a sniper’s bullet last night shortly after fighting broke out between Negroes and whites in the East New York section of Brooklyn. The killing followed by five hours the wounding of a 3-year old boy, who was hit by a sniper’s bullet at 5 PM. Late last night gangs of Negroes milled through the streets, tossing garbage cans through windows of stores, and in some cases looting them. People on roofs hurled tire jacks and bricks at passing police cars. Four policemen suffered minor injuries.”….Page 1: “Cleveland Police Wound Negro Mother, 3 Children”… “A Negro mother was wounded by police gunfire as she and four members of her family fled spreading disorders on the city’s eat side. It was widely feared that the incident in which three children were injured, might sustain the scattered rioting that has plagued Cleveland all week. Fire bombing resumed shortly after night fall, producing about 50 small blazes mostly in abandoned buildings. At least one arson suspect was apprehended. One fireman was reportedly shot by a sniper. There was scattered vandalism…. Page 35: “Leadership Lack Blamed For (Cleveland) Riots”…”Lack of effective leadership in both white and Negro communities was blamed today for the riots that have swept the Negro ghetto here. One observer, Sidney Peck, predicted the violence may be expected to grow. Dr. Peck described the violence as nothing more than making visible the just demands of a people that have been subjected to continual indignities. ‘Break a few windows and tings get done. It shows that violence pays off in bringing action.'”…

The sailors who are believed to be detained aboard a United States Navy ship off the coast of North Vietnam, were captured in late June after an engagement in the Gulf of Tonkin between an American destroyed and two North Vietnamese torpedo boats.”… “In another development concerning prisoners, the Defense Department raised the number of American servicemen held by Communist forces in Vietnam to 63, an increase of 26 over the casualty summary of three weeks ago. 22 JULY 1966… OPERATION ROLLING THUNDER… New York Times (23 July reporting 22 July ops)…”Navy and Air force fighter-bombers attacked rail lines, truck convoys, barges, radar sites, and oil and gasoline storage depots…Nineteen surface-to-air missiles were fired at the striking aircraft. Air foce pilots saw one of the missiles fall into the town of Hagia, 19 miles from Hanoi and explode… THERE WERE NO AIRCRAFT LOST ON 22 JULY 1966… A GOOD DAY. A HAPPY DAY…
